The future of BYOD - A PC That fits in your pocket

Post

Technology gives rise to trends. Individuals follow such trends to cope with life itself. Businesses follow such trends to cope with competition. Such a trend is BYOD.

It stands for Bring Your Own Device. First pointed at by Intel, when it observed it’s employees bringing in their personal customized mobile & hand-held devices to the workplace to facilitate work. Checking emails, editing excel sheets, internal communications on a corporate network but on a personal device. It was a paradigm shift from employer-owned conventional and complex workplace desktops to employee owned hand-held and mobile devices that made work-on-the-go sound like a piece of cake.

BYOD is a next-gen mobile strategy. It is a personal meets professional next-gen mobile strategy which is not only cost-saving for an organization but also creates a form of a mobile work-force as well. And for employees, there’s an observed, enhanced level of satisfaction. The most fascinating aspect of the BYOD strategy is size. Smart phones, phablets, tablets you name it, all are necessarily created to mimic a smart computing device. All that a personal computer can do, but as smaller in size as it can get. Technical breakthroughs happen each day, each hour, each minute. One can only fathom about the limitless possibilities that technology has paved itself, in the genre. A personal computer that fits in your pocket. It does sound like a possibility in the future but amazingly, the waiting period is over. It might seem ordinary as one may argue that a smart phone or a tablet for that matter, can do all that a personal computer can do. How could this be any different ?

The response to the argument would be a yet smaller device, almost the size of an USB stick but boldly offering much more. A personal computer, that small in size offering HDMI support, IOT compatibility, high-speed WiFI, cloud storage, supports Android, plug-n-play, energy efficiency, saves space and money. Well, big things do come in small packages.

As unbelievable as it sounds, technology has indeed made this possible. The future of such a device is indeed very promising for mankind. A decade ago who would have thought of smart classes in educational institutions, schools and colleges. Who would have thought that one could breathe in life in the classrooms through smart devices, a medium that expands one’s horizon of thinking, a medium that is not only interactive but interesting to both the educator and the learner.

Let’s face the facts here, nobody is ever away from a smart phone or an network connection. This is because such devices facilitate the availability of ready-to-go information keeping in mind strictly, the immediacy. What it does is that it improves life radically through connectivity. Such a time has come that a device of just a finger length lets you carry your personal and professional lives in your pocket.
